A Trip To Kuala Kurau (古楼一游)



Passing through Tanjung Piandang on the way to Kuala Kurau.



Finally arrived at Bagan Seberang Kula Kurau; a small fishing village in Kuala Kurau, northern Perak. Just in time for lunch.


Most of the people here are followers of Taoism and Taoist temples can easily be seen in this village.


There are a few home stay proprietors and this is one of them.


Shrimp drying is an economic activities in this fishing village.


An eating outlet in the village.



The delicious 'kerabu noodles' (酸菜海鲜面线) and deep fried small squids (油炸小鱿鱼) are must try in this village.


The curry noodles is a must try if you like spicy food. Main ingredients are shrimps and small squids.



The deep fried shrimp cakes (虾煎) should not be missed.


This is supposed to be Taiping unique beverage called 'hor-ka-sai' or 虎咬獅. Literally translated to 'tiger bites lion'. It is a mixture of local coffee and Milo. It is difficult to trace the origin of the name. Perhaps once you drank hor-ka-sai, you will be stronger than the lion! 

There are many interesting stuffs in Kuala Kurau... Take a trip and you will find out!

Breakfast In Sungai Bakap (双溪峇甲吃早餐)

This is the main branch of Soon Chi Restaurant in Sungai Bakap, Penang. There are two branches of Soon Chi in the vicinity. As you can see, Sungai Bakap main street is pretty tranquil... Of course, I took the picture around 9 a.m. It is worthwhile to stroll along the street and you may find yourself some pleasant surprises. Some types of Chinese dim sum (点心) including fish balls and Chinese prawn dumplings (虾饺). Of cause, there is the all famous fried cellophane noodles (冬粉) Or lor mee (卤面) which is best to be consumed with some black vinegar source. The chai kueh (菜粿) with jicama and chives as stuffings is a must try in Soon Chi.
